Is NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell a liar?
I don’t have the answer to that question. And frankly we might never know the truth.
Last Friday, Goodell came out of hiding, and delivered a speech that NFL players, fans and the media viewed as unfulfilling and vague.
Bill Simmons, founder of Grantland, summed up his thoughts of Goodell this past week on his podcast, The B.S Report.
(Simmons was later suspended for three weeks from the mother ship (ESPN) for his comments.)
Clearly, the owners of the NFL (Goodell’s bosses) have the commissioners back. They love him for turning their league into the most powerful sport in America. The revenue Goodell has created for the owners since he became commissioner in 2007 is unprecedented.
Basically the wealthy owners of the NFL love Roger Goodell, because he has helped make them even more stupid rich then they already were.
And if Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street” taught me anything about money it was this.
The Wolf of Wall Street is the second most entertaining movie I have ever seen, and I’m sure I will talk about it to great lengths in the future. But Scorsese’s film is an example that with great money comes mass corruption.
Is the handling of the Ray Rice case by the NFL the greatest cover up in sports history? It might be.
The NFL has issued a private investigation into the case, but two NFL owners, both of which are close to Goodell, are over seeing the operation.
And it is for that reason that I believe Roger Goodell will keep his job and by the time Thanksgiving arrives, this cover up will be a distant memory of the media and fans.
The NFL owners have the money to silence this once enormous controversy in a matter of months.
Initial reactions and Satisfactions
Redskins vs. Eagles: My initial reaction to this game was, “Did I really trade @jackwoolery Jeremy Maclin for Knowshaun Moreno after week one… Why did I do that?”
I had my reasons, and if Moreno doesn’t break his elbow maybe the deal wouldn’t sound so bad.
The combination of Foles to Maclin is for real, and for it to continue all you have to do is…
Foles leads the league in passing yards and Maclin is the fifth best WR in PPR scoring.
The QB and WR duo are talented don’t get me wrong, but their success is a product of Chip Kelly. If Foles and Maclin were to go down, an unnamed WR would have little problem matching Maclin’s production. I also believe Mark Sanchez would become a top 10 QB and the butt-fumble will forever be forgotten.
Patriots vs. Raiders: I’ll be honest; I’m getting pissed off watching the Patriots play. They have such a weak offensive game right now and clearly even Tom Brady is fed up with it.
It’s time to move on from Tom Brady. Brady is no longer a top 15 QB for me. Yet, Julian Edlelman and Gronk will continue to be solid fantasy options based solely on volume. When Brady is throwing he’s looking for the wanna be Wes Welker or the Beast Incarnate, Rob Gronkowski
All I will say regarding the Raiders is don’t sleep on James Jones. He’ll be seeing lots of junk time targets this year, which could make him a sneaky play some weeks depending on the match up.
49’ers vs. Cardinals: After I saw Fox air a slow motion video of Colin Kaepernick throwing the football in pregame warm-ups my initial reaction was.
- I am light-skinned and therefore need to get tatted.
- If I want to look like that, I need to stop doing 12-pound dumbbell curls like @nick_gmit11 and up my game. (Just kidding dad, love you.)
Then the game ended and I thought.
- Michael Floyd has two 100-yard plus games in three weeks. I remember when he dunked on an old friend of mine in a varsity basketball game once. I was only in grade eight when it happened, and six years later I think the Cretin Durham Hall product is going to be a top-15 WR this year.
- 18 carries for Andre Ellington? Go out and buy this man low. After his bye week, he’s going to blow up.
- Why is Stevie Johnson catching passes? That really kills fantasy days.
The take way is this. The 49’ers are going to be fine. The Cardinals are a team that should be taken seriously and with Palmer returning this offense is going to be clicking after the bye.
Broncos vs. Seahawks: I traded Emmanuel Sanders and Rashad Jennings for the absent Demaryius Thomas and Lamar Miller. That trade cost me a win this week and going into the Denver bye week, Thomas owners across America, including myself are all thinking this when it comes to D.Thomas.
I know that video was a bit blunt, but seriously Demaryius, if you’re going to keep screwing fantasy owners. At least follow me on twitter @BookofEllis before you do it.
Common sense tells you that Sanders is going to cool off and D. Thomas will pick up production, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t getting nervous.
Percy Harvin continues to hold true to his large hype and disappointing actual production mantra. I would try to trade Harvin if I owned him and cash in on any preseason value he had. Seattle runs it too often and is comfortable spreading the ball around rather then force-feeding Harvin.
————————————-Break in the action——————————————
I have called for this short recess to announce that tomorrow the Blugold football team will not be practicing, because it is our bye week. I wasn’t planning on taking any fantasy shots this week but screw it. All I got tomorrow is Spanish 101 and theater appreciation. Let’s get fantasy wasted!

Calling Some Shots
1st shot: Giants vs. The professional football team of Washington— Kirk Cousins throws for over 300 yards and the pro team of the nations capital win’s easily. (Hold on… There is some dialogue going on at the fantasy bar)
El Will: Hey, tender?! ,KEEPER?!
Fantasy cousin Jake: El I just poured you a fantasy shot, what’s up?
El Will: Wasn’t stiff enough, Can I add some more?
Fantasy cousin Jake: Sure cuz, what would you like to add?
El Will: I would like to add that Desean Jackson will get into the end zone tonight after the Giants have a break down in their coverage.
2nd shot: Packers vs. Bears— After a stiff first fantasy shot, this second one is going to be tough, but as a role model of mine once said, “you drink it all even when it tastes too strong.” But in this case I have got to say it all even if it sounds too strong. Packer fans I am sorry, but..
Eddie Lacy has caught a case of the Trent Richardsons.
It’s sad but looking to be true. I say Lacy struggles again this week leaving his fantasy owners in a world of confusion.
3rd shot: Texans vs. Bills— This smells like an Andre Johnson game for me, no clue if he is going for 100 yards or a score. Maybe he gets both. But get him in your lineup. The Bills have the 26th worst pass defense. Hopkins is a great flex play also.
4th shot: Panthers vs. Ravens— Sound the alarm from the intro to Hot Boy by Bobby Shmurda for this game. Steve Smith is ready to go off. The proof is in this video.
I am sure Smith Sr. wants nothing more then to get in the end zone versus his former team that kicked him to the curb. And like Desean Jackson getting his revenge last week, I think Smith Sr. has his day.
5th shot: Buccaneers vs. Steelers— I am five fantasy shots deep and my face is getting warm, so I’m just going to go out and say it. I love you Le’Veon Bell. I need you on my fantasy teams and inside of my lineup. I love you. (Consider that my fantasy drunk text to Le’Veon.)
I’ll say this too while I am at it. I believe Bell will finish as the number one RB in fantasy football.
Like Kanye once said in his verse from “Walking on the Moon” by The Dream.
“Now I’m drunk texting like it’s all about you, like I can’t spend another minute without you.”
Fantasy cousin Jake please cut me off.
Guys I BO-Lieve in! (This segment will someday be brought to you by the WWE and Bo Dallas as a future sponsor)
For anyone who skimmed my column last year, they know this section is where I simply will highlight a QB, RB and WR I believe in this week.
QB I BELIEVE in this week: Tony Romo- The Cowboys have become a run first team, but this big NFC matchup is when your franchise QB needs to show up. Considering the game is far from being ‘make or break’ for Dallas, I except Romo to rise to the early regular season occasion.
RB I BELIEVE in this week: Lamar Miller -The Dolphins have seemed to put their offensive line issues from last year behind them, and Miller has a date with the second worst rushing defense in da raiders!
WR I BELIEVE in this week: Roddy Whtie – After missing last week’s Thursday night crushing of the Bucs. Ryan will be looking to his trusted veteran early and often in Minnesota.
That’s all I wrote, thanks for reading, or skimming, or simply clicking and just watching the videos. I appreciate it all. Have a great fantasy weekend.
